This past Sunday (January 25), A$AP Mob’s co-founder A$AP Yams was laid to rest with a memorial service in New York City.
The ceremony took place at the city’s renowned Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel, the same chapel that played host to the goodbyes of John Lennon, Aaliyah and The Notorious B.I.G., among others. According to The Fader, about 100 guests congregated at the public part of the memorial, including A$AP Yams’ mother. However a private service was held afterwards for family and friends, including A$AP Rocky and other members of the A$AP Mob.
The publication also offered a description of the scene inside of the chapel.
“One wall of the understated chapel was lined with flower arrangements, including a large white rose heart that was inscribed with ‘YAMS,’” The Fader reports. “A variety of A$AP Mob gear from over the years, including a grey A$AP hoodie and a Yankees-style grey-pinstripe Yamborghini Records jersey, hung in a nook on the other side of the room. The black lacquered casket was adorned by a bloom of dark red roses, and framed by a Tumblr art-inspired, purple-tinged picture of Yams riding a white unicorn on the left and an oversized Coogi sweater that hung to the right. A slideshow of photos from Yams’ life—a child-aged Yams dressed as a pumpkin for Halloween, a RIAA plaque of A$AP Rocky’s Long.Live.ASAP—looped on a small screen behind.”
Each guest was given a laminated card with an elegy taken from his Twitter account.
