U.S. Commandos Kill Senior ISIS Leader In Syria, Wife Captured
United States forces have killed a senior Islamic State commander and captured his wife during a raid in Syria.
NY Daily News reports:
Defense Secretary Ash Carter identified the militant as Abu Sayyaf, who was in charge of oil fields — a key source of revenue for the terrorist group.
No U.S. forces were killed or injured, Carter said.
The Pentagon has identified his wife as Umm Sayyaf and she is currently being held in U.S military detention in Iraq. The site continues:
The operation also led to the freeing of a young Yezidi woman who appears to have been held as a slave by the couple, National Security Council spokeswoman Bernadette Meehan said.
Syrian media has reported that government forces killed at least 40 ISIS militants in the attack on Saturday.
