Tika Sumpter Reveals How She Prepped For The Role Of Michelle Obama

Tika Sumpter is a busy woman these days.

Fresh off shooting the sequel to Ride Along with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, Tika is gearing up for her role as Michelle Obama in Southside With You, which chronicles her first date with Barack.

In an interview with The Rickey Smiley Show, Tyler Perry’s The Haves and the Have Nots star discussed how she’s been prepping for the role of the First Lady. She revealed to Gary Wit Da Tea:

“I went to a vocal coach. The same coach that helped David Oyelowo with Martin Luther King. I read everything I possibly could read about her. The great thing about this movie is it’s when she was 25 and he was 27. So it’s taking something that really happened on their first date and re-imagining some of their conversation.”
