Dick Gregory Gets A Play Starring John Legend and Joe Morton
Dick Gregory is a man of many talents. Over the span of his eighty-three years, he’s been a comedian, an activist, and at one time, a presidential candidate. A man with such a long history is no doubt ripe for a re-telling of his life. John Legend and Joe Morton will be taking up the mantle to give a storied career the proper representation it deserves.
“So it’s not surprising that, finally, a documentary on the life, career and work of Gregory, entitled “Dick Gregory; How to Survive in America,” which will be directed by Andre Gaines (“Brazilian Western”) and produced by Michele Farinola, is in the works, scheduled to be completed in 2017.
But while we wait for that film, it was announced today John Legend is producing an Off-Broadway production titled “Turn Me Loose,” a comedy-drama written by Gretchen Law about the life of Gregory.”
There has already been three readings and workshops of the play, which is set to begin performances on May 3rd.
