Donald Trump‘s entire presidential campaign began with his controversial stance on immigration and his plans to target Muslims.
According to reports, Trump’s policy advisers are discussing plans to establish a registry for Muslim immigrants in America. Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach revealed Trump advisers are looking at how to implement a proposal suggested by the businessman-turned-President-elect that would force immigrants from Muslim countries to register on a database.
Kobach also claims the Trump administration could push ahead rapidly on construction of a U.S.-Mexico border wall without seeking immediate congressional approval. Although his role has not been confirmed by the President-elect’s transition team, Kobach helped devise tough immigration laws in a number of U.S. states and claims to have participated in regular conference calls with Mr. Trump’s immigration advisers, the Independent reports.
With the registration scheme, Muslims will reportedly be given a form of identification that notes their religion. However, Congress, which is controlled by Trump’s fellow Republicans, could object to redirecting the Department of Homeland Security funds designated for other purposes.
