On Wednesday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the City of Dallas for adopting a city charter amendment aimed at decriminalizing marijuana-related offenses according to NBC5.
Earlier this month, Dallas voters voted to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, making the city one of the largest in the country to do so. Proposition R passed with 66% support on November 5.

The proposition would prohibit Dallas police from utilizing the scent of marijuana as probable cause to search or seize objects, or to issue an arrest or ticket for marijuana if no felony is implicated.
According to the Texas Attorney General’s Office, the measure would prevent police from enforcing Texas law.
Paxton has already sued other cities, like Austin and Denton, for passing similar pot measures since the substance is still illegal on a state and federal level
