DFW Warming Centers

Residents across North Texas are bracing themselves for a very cold artic freeze for the next couple of days. But, Thursday, January 9th is when we are expected to get snow precipitation according to multiple news outlets.

NBC5 reported that temperatures could drop as low as the 25 degrees outside and get at least 3-6 inches of snow. So bundle up, and get ready! Ahead of Thursday’s snow, here are warming centers and resources to stay warm.

The Salvation Army of North Texas will have warming shelters open in Arlington, Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, Garland and Lewisville.

• The Salvation Army Arlington 712 W Abram Street, Arlington, TX 76013. (Check-in from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
• The Salvation Army Carr P Collins Center 5302 Harry Hines Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75235. (Check-in starts at 4 p.m.)
• The Salvation Army Denton Shelter 1508 E McKinney Street, Denton, TX 76209 (Check-in from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
• The Salvation Army Mabee Center 1855 E Lancaster Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76103.
• The Salvation Army Garland 451 W Avenue D, Garland, TX 75040. (Check-in starting at 5 p.m.)
• The Salvation Army Lewisville 880 Fox Avenue, Lewisville, TX 75067 (Check-in from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.)

Several organizations are also mobilizing:

• The Oak Cliff Corps Community Center is collecting blankets to distribute through their ministry

• The Plano Corps Community Center will be traveling across the county to distribute sleeping bags, hand warmers, coffee and hot chocolate to individuals experiencing homelessness
• The Irving Corps Community Center will be traveling across the county to distribute coffee, hot chocolate, warm meals, and warming supplies to individuals experiencing homelessness
• The McKinney Corps Community Center will be handing out “winter care backpacks” with gloves, hats, blankets, umbrellas, hydration, and snacks, in addition to serving meals to individuals experiencing homelessness

Individual cities are also activating their own warming centers.
