Dallas Police Ordered Not Make Arrests for Marijuana Possession

Anything less than 4oz of marijuana possesion is no longer considered to be a crime in the city if Dallas, according to a new law implimented.

WFAA reports police officers have been insructed not to detain, arrest, or give citations. This comes after Dallas voted on Proposition R to decriminalize marijuanna. Officers were also instructed that they are no longer able to ” use odor as propable cause to search and seizure.”
This new law, Dallas Freedom Act is not to be confused with the legalization of Marijuana. This would have to be passed at the the federal level, and from the looks of it, the state of Texas is fighting it.
Also, please take notice that this is only in the city if Dallas. If you pulled over in any suburb in Dallas, you can be held accountable for Marijuana Possession.

In past years police officers have issued citations and made hundreds of arrests for marijuana possesion. According to previous law, carrying less than two ounces is a class B misdemeanor that carries a 180-day consequences, while possessing two to four ounces is a class A misdemeanor that carries a one-year jail sentence.
