Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2025 Nominees

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced their 2025 nominees Wednesday via its Instagram account. The list of nominees features artists from across the music industry, with most of them falling into the “rock” category.
The 2025 nominees include Bad Company, The Black Crowes, Mariah Carey, Chubby Checker, Joe Cocker, Billy Idol, Joy Division and New Order, Cyndi Lauper, Maná, Oasis, Outkast, Phish, Soundgarden and The White Stripes. Mariah Carey and Outkast are notable nominations that have little or nothing to do with the rock genre. Joy Division and New Order are nominated together.
According to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, nominations go to “artists who have created music whose originality, impact, and influence has changed the course of rock ‘n’ roll.” The artist must also have released their debut music at least 25 years ago. This often leads some rock fans being disappointed with the nominations and selections to get into the hall of fame, especially given several more-than-worthy rock artists that are still waiting for a nomination.

Notable rock artists not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame include Boston, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe and Sammy Hagar (as a solo artist) among hundreds of other deserving rock icons. Seeing names like those left off the nomination ballots year after year has become more and more perplexing, especially considering many of them are legends in the genre the hall is named for.
