DeMarcus Lawrence’s time with the Dallas Cowboys may have ended but his recent comments may leave a lasting sting on the team. The four-time Pro Bowl defensive end signed a three-year deal worth up to $42 million with the Seattle Seahawks and while talking to the media, Lawrence expressed his love for Dallas, where he spent his first 11 NFL seasons, but he didn’t hold back in criticizing his former team. His comments subtly targeted the Cowboys’ 30-year championship drought, a sore point for the franchise and its fan base.

“Dallas is my home. Made my home there,” Lawrence said. “My family lives there. I’m forever gonna be there. I know for sure I’m not gonna win a Super Bowl there. So, yeah, we here.” While Lawrence’s words acknowledged his personal connection to the city, the jab at the Cowboys’ prolonged absence from the Super Bowl was unmistakable.

Predictably, the remarks drew backlash, notably from Micah Parsons, Lawrence’s former teammate and one of the Cowboys’ current stars. Parsons took to social media to share a clip of Lawrence’s interview, captioning it with, “This is what rejection and envy look like! This some clown s—!” Parsons’ sharp words hinted at deeper frustration, perhaps stemming from the obvious tension over Lawrence’s departure.

Lawrence, however, didn’t back down and had a pointed response of his own. ā€œCalling me a clown won’t change the fact that I told the truth,ā€ he retorted, before adding, ā€œMaybe if you spent less time tweeting and more time winning, I wouldn’t have left.ā€

Lawrence’s comments cut to a nerve within the Cowboys organization. Despite their standing as one of the most successful franchises in NFL history, the team has not won a Super Bowl since the 1995 season. This championship drought, the longest in franchise history, underscores the struggles of a team that, while boasting talent like Parsons and previously Lawrence, has failed to reach its former heights.

Now with the Seahawks, Lawrence hopes to finally achieve team success that eluded him in Dallas, adding a new layer of rivalry and intrigue to the upcoming NFL season.
